What type of light should I use in my dining room?

There are some great flush and semi-flush fixtures on the market. Most will depend on you room style and taste. That is one way, not really the best for dining but with your issue one avenue to consider. Another would be recessed with adjustable trims with dimmer to allow for intimate setting to dine by.
