My husband and I have decided that we want a purebred German Shepard pup. But we have no clue as how to go?

about finding a qualified breeder, what is a reasonable fee to pay, and what to look out for while visiting the pups and making our choice? I have heard so many horror stories about puppy mills, that I am scared to buy a pup that is sickly or inbred.. What questions should my husband and I ask him/her and what kind of questions should we expect them to ask us?
