The main characters in two stories reflect what America ociate with poor. The first story is “Louisa.” In the story, the main character Louisa lost her job, but still she had to support her family. Louisa and her family did not have enough money to survive and suffer from starvation. The only thing that Louisa’s family had was a little house with an acre of land, which was not enough for them to stay alive. The second story is “Hope Deferred.” In the story, the main character Louis Edwards could not find a job. He was a civil engineer, but because of his skin color no one wanted to give him a job. Furthermore, he could not afford to pay his bills and support his wife.
