How do I put together a wardrobe consulting portfolio?

I am brand new in the field and will be starting fashion school in august. However I have tons of fashion sense and want to start a miniature portfolio on what I believe is great fashion and some fashion basics for those I am consulting for. Is it okay to compile a portfolio with magazine clippings of high fashion lines, words (fashion, style etc.) and outfits as a beginning? Or is this a NO NO! Help is neededdddddddddd!
